Working as a freelancer in the world of online is fantastic! I've been 'lucky' enough to have computers around me all my life and my background is that of a traditionally trained programmer who's been converted to the internet world of scripting, usability and social media.

During my career I've worked with bigger companies like IBM and Time Out (London and International), and also with smaller startups, NGOs and entrepreneurial businesses like ComRes.

When broken down over the lifetime of a project, my skills include:

• Initiation phase:
  • Requirements capture - asking the questions that other developers might miss, analysis of what you really want from your site.
  • Architecture - site structure, database design, services selection.
  • Project planning - creation of full site specification documentation.
• Development phase: All sorts of backend coding and development. From getting a server up and running, to building databases and page scripts.
• Release and maintenance: Once a site is built, the work is only just beginning.
  • SEO - optimisation for search and site promotion.
  • Social media strategy development.
  • Analytics and usage analysis.
  • Plus there's nothing like bug fixing and hacking existing sites to get things working!

I'm also available for teaching and have taught on the Tech 1 course at Hyper Island... we even did some brand analysis.
